VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR. The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur (PGIS) through the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) spearheaded successfully the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) Closing Ceremony at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood Development Center, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on 30 October 2024,. This significant event brought together students, faculty from participating schools, representatives from other stakeholders, and the provincial line agencies. It served as platform to showcase the accomplishments of the month-long celebration, recognize outstanding achievements in the various contests conducted, and foster insight-sharing among participants.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the Chairperson of the PSC and Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, Architect/EnP Estrelita I. Rugnao, followed by an inspirational message from the Governor of Ilocos Sur, Hon. Jeremias “Jerry” C. Singson, which was delivered on his behalf by Sangguniang Panlungsod Member (SPM) Hon. Francisco Ranches III.
An information and data dissemination forum also highlighted the event, featuring a presentation on the Digital National ID by PSA Ilocos Sur’s National ID Focal Person, Mr. Gian Carlo A. Fernando. The presentation provided key insights into the Digital National ID, helping stakeholders understand its various features, including PhilSys Services and Authentication Services. The discussion aimed to raise awareness and encourage unregistered citizens to register for the National ID, which plays a crucial role in streamlining government services and improving access to essential resources. Additionally, Ms. Mary Joy Soliven, Project Development Officer I of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), presented information on Cybersecurity Awareness, emphasizing the importance of safe digital practices.
Following the forum, the awarding ceremony for the 35th NSM provincial competitions took place. Participants from across the provinces gathered to celebrate the achievements of winners in several competitions, including the Digital Poster Slogan Making Contest, Infographics Making Contest, Essay Writing Contest, Oratorical Contest, Statistics Quiz, Statiktok Contest, and Jingle Sing and Dance Contest. These contests highlighted participants’ creativity and analytical skills, showcasing the value of statistics in developing evidence-based solutions. Winners received certificates, cash prizes, and tokens, in recognition of their hard work and dedication throughout the competition. The prizes were sponsored by the PGIS, DICT, University of Northern Philippines (UNP), and PSA.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from the PSC Vice-Chairperson and Chief Statistical Specialist, Ms. Jeanette M. Marzan, who reiterated the role of statistics in achieving sustainable development goals and encouraged continued collaboration among various sectors.
