Ilocos Region’s Fisheries Production in 2024

In 2024, Ilocos Region’s fisheries production was estimated at 191,438 metric tons. This output was lower by 0.4 percent from the 192,279 metric tons in 2023.

The Ilocos Region shared 4.7 percent to the total national production of 4,058,693 metric tons in 2024.

 

 

By subsector, municipal fisheries and aquaculture contributed to the downtrend of Ilocos Region’s overall fisheries production. In the municipal fisheries, production went down by 9.8 percent from the production of 23,483 metric tons in 2023. Similarly, aquaculture production went down to 159,853 metric tons in 2024. This is lower by 2.7 percent from the recorded production of 164,346 metric tons in 2023.

Meanwhile, commercial fisheries production went up by 133.9 percent, from 4,450 metric tons in 2023 to 10,411 metric tons in 2024.

 

Bulk of the overall fisheries production in the region in 2024 came from the aquaculture subsector with 83.5 percent share. Meanwhile, municipal and commercial fisheries contributed 11.1 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively.

Pangasinan was the leading contributor in fisheries production accounting for 90.2 percent of the region’s total output in 2024. Its production was noted at 172,734 metric tons higher by 1.1 percent from its output of 170,870 metric tons in 2023. La Union followed with a production of 8,609 metric tons, contributing 4.5 percent to the regional total. Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte contributed 6,221 metric tons (3.3 percent), and 3,875 metric tons (2.0 percent), respectively.

 

 

 

The top five species contributing to the total fisheries production of the Ilocos Region were milkfish, tilapia, yellowfin tuna, skipjack, and roundscad.

Milkfish has the highest volume of production at 141,689 metric tons which comprised 74.0 percent of the total fisheries production in the region. The production in 2024 decreased by 1.3 percent from the 143,554 metric tons output in 2023. Meanwhile, tilapia production in the region was recorded at 14,702 metric tons, a decrease of 12.7 percent compared to its level in 2023.

Production of yellowfin tuna was recorded at 7,002 metric tons in 2024 higher than the 3,481 metric tons output in 2023. Skipjack production also increased from 2,912 metric tons in 2023 to 6,957 metric tons in 2024. On the other hand, the production of roundscad at 2,931 metric tons went down by 2.0 percent.
