The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducts the January 2024 round of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) Visit 2 from 09 to 31 January 2024 in the province of La Union.
The LFS, a nationwide survey of households, aims to measure the current state of the Philippine labor market. It provides information as a basis for the formulation of policies and programs to create and generate gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reduce unemployment and underemployment, and enhance the welfare of a working person.
Simultaneously, the 2023 FIES Visit 2 is a rider to the January 2024 LFS. It serves as the main source of data on family income and expenditures in the Philippines. It aims to gather data on family income and family living expenditure and related information affecting family income, sources of income, and family expenditure, including cost and consumption volume. These are used in determining the income distribution, levels of living, spending patterns, and the degree of income inequality among families. Further, the FIES is the main source of data for the estimation of the official poverty statistics. The information generated from FIES also serves as input for policies and programs of the government aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the Filipino people. The 2023 FIES is the twentieth survey conducted from the time it started in 1957. It is conducted in two separate visits and as a rider to the July 2023 and now the January 2024 round of the LFS. The first visit has January to June 2023 as reference period while the second visit has July to December 2023 as reference period.
In La Union, a total of 51 Statistical Researchers (SRs) and six Team Supervisors (TSs) are hired and trained to conduct the face-to-face interviews with 1,537 sample households through the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) approach using tablets.
The success of this survey relies on the quality of the data obtained by the SRs. Hence, PSA-La Union earnestly calls upon all sample households to participate in the January 2024 LFS and the 2023 FIES Visit 2 by providing complete and truthful information. Respondents for both surveys are assured that all personnel involved are required to keep in strict confidentiality any information obtained during the survey that pertains to any particular household or individual person, as stipulated in Section 26 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 and Section 8 of RA 10173, or the Data Privacy Act. All data obtained herein shall be held strictly confidential and will not be used for taxation, investigation, or law enforcement purposes.
