Ilocos Region
The inflation rate of the Ilocos Region decreased from 5.2 percent in May 2023 to 4.3 percent in June 2023, lower by of 0.9 percentage point. Furthermore, it is lower by 2.2 percentage points from the rate of 6.5 percent in June 2022.

The slower inflation rate in Ilocos Region in June 2023 was influenced by the remarkable decrease in inflation of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 2.4 percent from 4.2 percent in May 2023. Moreover, transport was observed at -8.4 percent from -4.9 percent. Finally, food and non-alcoholic beverages registered at 7.1 percent from 7.7 percent. (Table B)
In addition, lower annual increments in the indices of the following commodity groups as compared to their previous month’s inflation rates were observed:
a. Recreation, sport and culture, 3.3 percent;
b. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 9.0 percent;
c. Clothing and footwear, 5.9 percent;
d. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 6.7 percent;
e. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household
maintenance, 8.7 percent; and
f. Information and Communication, 0.8 percent.
The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths.
Table C. Food Index Inflation Rate, Ilocos Region
June 2022, May 2023 and June 2023 (2018=100)
As shown in Table C, the food index of Ilocos Region decreased at 7.3 percent in June 2023, from 7.9 percent in the previous month. In June 2022, the food index was posted at 6.2 percent. Furthermore, the following food groups exhibited lower annual increments during the current month:
a. Flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals, 9.2 percent;
b. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 0.5 percent;
c. Fish and other seafood, 11.8 percent;
d. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 32.0 percent;
e. Oils and fats, 9.6 percent;
f. Milk, other dairy products, and eggs, 16.0 percent; and
g. Ready-made food and other food products N.E.C., 6.1 percent.
The rest of the indices exhibited increases from their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths.

Among the provinces, Pangasinan posted the highest inflation rate at 5.1 percent in June 2023 followed by Ilocos Sur at 3.2 percent, and La Union at 3.0 percent. The lowest inflation rate of 2.8 percent was registered in Ilocos Norte.
Compared to their respective levels in June 2022, Ilocos Sur decreased by 5.2 percentage points. Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte, and La Union exhibited decreased inflation rate by 4.8 percentage points and 1.6 percentage points, respectively. The province of Pangasinan exhibited decreased inflation rate by 1.4 percentage points.
