Ilocos Region

The inflation rate of the Ilocos Region for all income household in March 2025 slowed down to 2.1 percent, this is lower than the recorded rate in February 2025 of 2.5 percent. Inflation rate in March 2024 was posted at 2.2 percent.
 

 

 

 

The lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:

a.    Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 2.6 percent;
b.    Transport, -1.6 percent;
c.    Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 3.4 percent;
d.    Clothing and footwear, 2.5 percent;
e.    Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance, 1.7 percent;
f.    Health, 1.7 percent;
g.    Information and communication, -0.2 percent; and
h.    Recreation, sport and culture, 3.3 percent.

On the other hand, higher indices were noted for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 1.6 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, zero percent annual growth were observed in the following commodity groups:

a.    Education services, 2.9 percent; 
b.    Restaurants and accommodation services, 2.5 percent; and
c.    Financial services, 0.0 percent.

Furthermore, the following commodity groups were the top three major contributors to the March 2025 overall inflation for all income households:

a.    Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 50.1 percent share or 1.05 percentage points;
b.    Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 20.7 percent share or 0.43 percentage point; and
c.    Restaurants and accommodation services, 14.3 percent share or 0.30 percentage point.
 

 

As shown in Table D, the food index of Ilocos Region in March 2025 went down to 2.7 percent from the recorded rate of 3.1 percent in February 2025. In March 2024, the food index was posted at 6.7 percent. The following food groups showed lower inflation rates in March 2025:

a.    Rice, -8.9 percent;
b.    Corn, 3.2 percent;
c.    Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals, 1.5 percent;
d.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (ND), 7.3 percent;
e.    Oils and fats (ND), -1.2 percent; and
f.    Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c. (ND), 5.2 percent.

On the other hand, higher inflation rates were recorded in the following food groups:

a.    Fish and other seafood (ND), 9.3 percent;
b.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs (ND), 1.8 percent;
c.    Fruits and nuts (ND), 16.2 percent; 
d.    Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas 
and pulses (ND), 11.3 percent; and
e.    Sugar, confectionery and desserts (ND), 0.8 percent.
 

 

Among the provinces, Ilocos Sur posted the highest inflation rate at 3.0 percent in March 2025, followed by Pangasinan at 2.3 percent. La Union and Ilocos Norte recorded inflation rates of 1.5 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.

Compared to their respective levels in March 2024, all the provinces, except Ilocos Sur, recorded lower inflation rates.
