Vital statistics based on civil registration showed that Ilocos Region registered 63, 240 live births from January to December 2022, a decline of 1.0 percent compared to same period of 2021. This showed a 173 average daily live births registered in 2022.
On the other hand, figure 2 below showed that there were declines in the registered births in the month of February for both 2021 and 2022, while the month of September recorded increase for both years. On the other hand, October 2022 recorded the highest number of registered births in the region at 7,018.
The Province of Pangasinan accounted majority (64 percent) of the total registered live births in Ilocos Region in 2022. This accounted 110 daily average registered live births in the province. Meanwhile, La Union shared 14 percent, or around 24 daily average registered live births. On the other hand, the province of locos Sur shared 12 percent with a daily average registered live births of 20, while Ilocos Norte accounted 10 percent with an average registered live births of 18 per day during the same period.
All of the provinces in Ilocos Region recorded increase in the number of registered live births in 2022, except in the province of La Union. The province of Ilocos Norte registered the highest increase at 2.0 percent. This was followed by Pangasinan at 1.5 percent, and Ilocos Sur at 1.3 percent. On the other hand, La Union recorded a decline of 1.9 percent during the same period.
