The Vital Statistics generated by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) based on Civil Registration showed that Dagupan City (Pangasinan) recorded the highest number of registered live births in Ilocos Region in 2021. Dagupan City shared 13.0% of the total 62,287 registered live births in the region during this period. Despite the decline of 18.0% in the number of registered live births from 2020 data, Dagupan City maintained its rank regionwide.

 

Meanwhile, San Carlos City (Pangasinan) remained second in the total number of registered live births in the region which accounted 10.0% of the region’s total number of registered live births in 2021. San Carlos City maintained its rank despite the decline of 17.1 percent from the 7,519 total number of registered live births in the city in 2020. On the other hand, Urdaneta City came third with 5,105 registered live births in 2021, an increase of 1.2% from previous year.

Figure 2 showed that region’s total number of registered live birth in 2021 decreased by 11.3%. Moreover, the 62,287 total number of registered live births in 2021 accounted 171 daily average of registered live births in Ilocos Region. Meanwhile, all the provinces in the region recorded decline in the number of registered live births during the same period, of which, Ilocos Sur recorded the highest rate of decrease at 14.7%.

The province of Pangasinan recorded the highest percentage share on the total number of registered live births in the region in 2021 at 63.2%. This accounted for a 108 average daily registered live births for 2021. Meanwhile, La Union shared 15.0% of total 2021 registered live births in the region, which accounted 26 average daily registered live births; Ilocos Sur shared 11.5 percent with 20 average daily registered live births; and 10.3% of the registered live births were from Ilocos Norte which averaged 18 per day.
 

On the other hand, Figure 4 showed that majority of registered live births in the region were males who comprised 52.3% of the total number of registered live births in 2021; this accounted 110 males for every 100 registered females. Meanwhile, the province of Ilocos Norte recorded a ratio of 113 males for every 100 females registered live births during the same period, while Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan recorded a ratio of 109:100.
 

Meanwhile, 99.3% of the 2021 registered live births in the region were born by mothers whose residences were within Ilocos Region.

Corollary, 99.1% of registered live births in Ilocos Norte were from mothers who are residents of the province, while there were 18 and 10 registered live births born by mothers whose residences were Ilocos Sur and Cagayan, respectively.
