Marine municipal fisheries volume of production declined by 10.70 percent

Marine Municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 5,198.63 metric tons in second quarter 2023, lower by 10.70 percent from the 5,821.72 metric tons produced in second quarter 2022. The subsector’s output comprised 11.10 percent of the total volume of fisheries production at 46,846.41 metric tons in the region.

The Ilocos Region contributed 2.21 percent to the 234,903.30 metric tons of marine fisheries production in the country in second quarter 2023.
 

All the provinces declined in the marine municipal fisheries production

Ilocos Sur has the highest decrement in marine municipal production recording 1,659.12 metric tons lower by 16.25 percent or a difference of 269.54 metric tons from the 1,928.66 metric tons in second quarter

2022.    On the other hand, Pangasinan has the least decline of 4.24 percent, equivalent to 95.68 metric tons decrease.

Pangasinan had the highest contribution of 43.37 percent in marine fisheries production

By provincial share, Pangasinan contributed 2,254.64 metric tons, equivalent to 43.37 percent share of the region’s marine municipal fisheries production. Ilocos Sur followed with a 31.91 percent share, Ilocos Norte at 873.15 metric tons equivalent to 16.80 percent, and La Union with 7.92 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production of the region.

Roundscad posted the highest volume of production

The top 5 species captured in marine fisheries were roundscad, squid, yellowfin tuna, big-eyed scad, and skipjack.

Roundscad posted the highest volume of marine municipal fisheries production of 1,092.16 metric tons in second quarter 2023, which comprised 21.01 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production.

Squid recorded a production of 1,047.37 metric tons in second quarter 2023. It comprised 20.15 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production.

Production of yellowfin tuna posted 292.21 metric tons in second quarter

2023.    Big-eyed scad and skipjack, on the other hand, contributed 5.17 percent and 3.54 percent, respectively.
