The Vital Statistics released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) based on civil registration showed decline of 28.0 percent in the total number of registered deaths in Ilocos Region for the period January to December 2022 as compared to same period in 2021. Likewise, the average daily registered deaths in the region reached 106 in 2022.

Figure 2 showed that September 2021 recorded the highest number of registered deaths in Ilocos Region at 9,276. Likewise, a continuous increase on registered deaths were recorded for the periods July to September 2021, while a decreasing trend was recorded from October to December 2021.

Meanwhile, the lowest number of registered deaths for the periods 2021 and 2022 were recorded in April 2022 at 2,856. In 2022, the highest number of registered deaths was recorded in January, while a down trend was recorded from February to April 2022.

Meanwhile, majority (58.5%) of the total registered deaths from January to December 2022 was recorded in the province of Pangasinan. This was followed by La Union which shared 14.9 percent, while Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte contributed 14.0% and 12.6%, respectively, of the total 38,843 registered deaths in the region in 2022.

Similarly, all the provinces recorded lower registered deaths in 2022. The province of Pangasinan had the highest decline in the total number of registered deaths at 30.5 percent lower compared to 2021. This also showed a drop in the average daily registered deaths in the province from 90 to 62 deaths per day.

Meanwhile, the La Union registered a decline of 28.0 percent of the total number of registered deaths in 2022, which accounted a drop in the average registered deaths from 22 in 2021 to 16 deaths per day in 2022. Ilocos Sur on the hand recorded a decrease of 24.3 percent while Ilocos Norte’s total number of registered deaths declined by 19.0 percent. The daily average registered deaths for Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte in 2022 was 15 and 13 deaths, respectively.

Meanwhile, the sex ratio of the total number of registered deaths in Ilocos Region in 2022 was 123 males for every 100 females.
