Philippine Statistics Authority – Pangasinan Provincial Statistical Office conducts field enumeration for the 2024 Functional Literacy, Education, and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) from 30 September to 22 October 2024.
The Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) is a nationwide household-based survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) generally every five (5) years since 1989. The last round of the survey was conducted in 2019, and the seventh in the series of literacy surveys will be conducted in October 2024.
Specifically, 2024 FLEMMS seeks to collect household information on the following: (1) basic and functional literacy; (2) digital literacy; (3) education; (4) employment; (5) demographic characteristics; (6) housing characteristics; and (7) exposure to mass media. Furthermore, the 2024 FLEMMS will pilot test new data items that are aligned with the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), which is the recommended tool to measure functional literacy endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
To achieve this goal, PSA Pangasinan has hired and deployed 32 Statistical Researchers and 8 Team Supervisors for 2024 FLEMMS enumeration in the province. They were equipped with concepts, definitions, procedures, and guidelines through the Third Level Training held last 23-27 September 2024, which was spearheaded by Chief Statistical Specialist Edgar M. Norberte, together with Statistical Specialist II Xavier B. Narvas, Registration Officer I Maricar C. Gabriel, Registration Officer I Ginalaine G. Molina, and Administrative Officer I Angelica P. Sarzaba who served as trainers.
