The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - La Union Provincial Statistical Office, in collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), conducts the January 2024 round of the Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) from 19 to 31 January 2024 in randomly selected sample households in La Union.

For the January 2024 CES, La Union covered a total of 64 sample households in four (4) selected barangays within the province namely: Sto. Domingo Norte, Luna; Santiago Norte, City of San Fernando; Sto. Rosario East, Aringay; and Sta. Rita (Nalinac), Agoo. These sample barangays are being field visited by two (2) hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) using Computer-Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI) under the direct supervision of Dr. Danites E. Teñido, Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) of PSA-La Union, and Karl Josef G. Hufana, Provincial Focal Person (PFP).

The CES is a quarterly household-based survey on consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country and is administered on a sample basis at the household level, drawn through stratified multi-stage random sampling with a total sample of about 5,000 households nationwide. It is a joint undertaking between the PSA and the BSP and serves as a complementary survey to the Business Expectations Survey (BES) of the BSP. The PSA’s responsibility is to undertake the data collection, while the generation of tables and analysis of the results are done by the BSP.

The results of the CES will guide planners in forecasting the direction of change in the economy as well as the behavior of key indicators such as the inflation rate, interest rates, and exchange rates.

All information pertaining to any household or individual obtained during the conduct of the CES is required to be kept in strict confidentiality pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 10172, or the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and Section 26 of RA No. 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.
