The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - La Union Provincial Statistical Office, in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), conducts the April 2024 round of the Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) from 01 to 15 April 2024 in randomly selected sample households in La Union.

For the April 2024 CES, La Union covered a total of 73 sample households in four (4) selected barangays within the province namely: Guinabaran, Balaoan; Sapilang, Bacnotan; Paratong Norte, Bangar; and Tay-ac, Rosario. These sample barangays will be field visited by two (2) hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) using Computer-Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI) under the direct supervision of Dr. Danites E. Teñido, Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) of PSA-La Union, and Karl Josef G. Hufana, Provincial Focal Person (PFP).

The CES is a quarterly household-based survey on consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country and is administered on a sample basis at the household level, drawn through stratified multi-stage random sampling with a total sample of about 5,000 households nationwide. It is a joint undertaking between the PSA and the BSP and serves as a complementary survey to the Business Expectations Survey (BES) of the BSP. The PSA collects the data while the BSP analyzes the results.

The results of the CES will guide planners in forecasting the direction of change in the economy as well as the behavior of key indicators such as the inflation rate, interest rates, and exchange rates.

The success of the survey relies on the quality of the data obtained by the SRs. Hence, PSA-La Union earnestly calls upon all sample households to participate in the April 2024 CES by providing complete and truthful information. Respondents in the survey are assured that all personnel involved are required to keep in strict confidentiality any information obtained during the survey that pertains to any household or person, as stipulated in Section 26 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 and Section 8 of RA 10173, or the Data Privacy Act.
