ILOCOS SUR. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Ilocos Sur conducted the 
3rd Level Training of the 1st Quarter 2024 Inland Fisheries Survey at Conference Hall, 3rd floor, UNP Town Center Tamag, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on 07 February 2024.

This survey aims to generate volume and value of inland fisheries production by species and quarter at the provincial, regional and national levels. It plays a crucial role in gathering essential data for various purpose related to fisheries. Policymakers can utilize this data to inform decisions related to fisheries management, agricultural policies, and economic development. The data can help in designing and implementing programs aimed at supporting the fisheries sector and related communities. The data collected from these surveys will also serve as a guide for the development of appropriate policy measures and support programs. Especially significant is the mention of supporting fisher folks to cope with the impact of community quarantine, ensuring they can continue their fishing activities and maintain their livelihoods.

The data collection will be conducted through face-to-face interview by three Statistical Researchers (SRs) using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) Method. They will be interviewing 49 sample inland fishing households covering the two cities and the four municipalities in the province.
 

During the training, Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Jeanette M. Marzan emphasized the importance of gathering correct and accurate data in her opening message. She set a tone of accountability and professionalism, reinforcing the importance of gathering correct and accurate data to achieve the goals of the surveys effectively. Statistical Analyst (SA) Engr. Joy Y. Lived discussed the operations manual covering the introduction, survey forms and materials, field operations procedure up until on how to accomplish forms. By covering these aspects in the operations manual, he ensured that field staff are properly trained and equipped to carry out the surveys effectively and accurately, thereby contributing to the overall success of the data collection effort.

This survey aims to generate volume and value of inland fisheries production by species and quarter at the provincial, regional, and national levels. Overall, this survey is instrumental in providing the necessary information for decision-making and support within the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, as well as contributing to broader economic and policy objectives.

Pursuant to Section 25 of RA No. 10625, the National Statistician identified the above-mentioned statistical inquiry or survey to be conducted with obligation to provide information. Considering this, all respondents whether natural or legal persons shall be liable to reply statistical inquiry or survey. The respondents are also required to give truthful and complete answers to the said statistical inquiry or surveys of the PSA and other statistical offices of the Philippine Statistical System.
