ILOCOS SUR. In preparation to the conduct of the May and June 2024 Monthly Palay and Corn Situation Reporting System (MPCSRS) enumeration, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Ilocos Sur conducted its provincial briefing at the Conference Hall, 3rd floor, UNP Town Center Tamag, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on 26 April 2024.

The activity aimed to capacitate the two hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) who will be conducting the data collection to the 75 sample households for MPCSRS-Palay and 100 sample households for MPCRS-Corn from sample municipalities using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method. The data collection will be conducted on the first six days of May and June 2024.

The PSA is conducting the MPCRS to update data that will be used as a monitoring tool for palay and corn crops as well as their growing conditions. Its objectives are to give monthly updates on the area and output of palay and corn by growth stages (vegetative, reproductive, and mature), as well as forecasts for the present and upcoming quarters based on planting intentions. These data will also be used by the government planners, and administrators in formulating social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

The Authority and mandate of the PSA to conduct the MPCSRS emanates from Republic Act (R.A) No. 10625 known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 state that, “the PSA will be primarily responsible to all national censuses and surveys, sectoral statistics consolidation of administrative recording system, and compilation of national accounts.”

The respondents are also required to give truthful and complete answers to the said statistical inquiry or surveys of the PSA and other statistical offices of the Philippine Statistical System.
