In 2021, the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (PSTA) sector in the Ilocos Region employed 1,038 workers across 143 establishments in the Ilocos Region. This indicates that an average of seven employees worked per establishment in the said sector in 2021.

From 101 establishments in 2020 there was an increase of 41.6 percent in establishments in 2021. Meanwhile, there were an uptick of 59.2 percent in the number of employees under PSTA from 652 in 2020 to 1,038 in 2021.

In the Ilocos Region, PSTA sector registered 1,012 paid employees in 2021, accounting for 97.5 percent of the total employment. The number of paid employees increased by 57.4 percent in 2021 compared to 2020. Meanwhile, the PSTA sector total revenue declined from PhP 419.54 million in 2020 to PhP 354.92 million in 2021.

In 2021, the PSTA sector in the Ilocos Region recorded a total expense of PhP 409.42 million. This was 14.2 percent lower than the PhP 477.02 million expense incurred in 2020. On the other hand, the total revenue recorded by the sector in 2021, amounted to PhP 354.92 million was lower than the PhP 419.54 million in 2020.
 

The revenue per peso expense ratio of the PSTA in 2021 was recorded at 0.87, lower than the 0.88 revenue per expense ratio in 2020. The ratio indicates that for every peso spent in 2021, the sector generated a revenue of PhP 0.87

The average annual compensation paid per employee in the Ilocos Region for the PSTA sector was recorded at 96.90 thousand in 2021. The total compensation paid by the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities to its employees in the Ilocos Region in 2021 amounted to PhP 98.02 million.
