The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - La Union Provincial Statistical Office and La Union Civil Registrars Association (LUCRA) spearheaded the 34^th Civil Registration Month (CRM) celebration in La Union and formally commenced the month-long celebration with a Thanksgiving Mass and Opening Ceremony on 05 February 2024 at PDRRMO Bldg., Brgy. Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The CRM is celebrated in February of every year under Proclamation No. 682 signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on 28 January 1991. The 34^th CRM celebration revolves around the theme, “CRVS: The Future of Seamless Services,” that highlights the importance of civil registry documents such as birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, and other vital records in enabling Filipinos to access various services of the government. 

In her opening remarks, PSA-La Union Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Dr. Danites E. Teñido underscored that the CRM is not just a month to celebrate but to remind the public of their duty to register acts and events concerning the status of a person; enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative, and statistical values of civil registry documents; and emphasize its importance in national development planning. Dr. Teñido also enjoined everyone to support the lined-up activities of the province for the 34^th CRM celebration such as hanging of streamer and posting of social media cards, motorcade, radio interview, Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) Visitation, Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) information dissemination, Online CRVS Forum, on-site CRVS exhibits, charitable activity, free issuance of certification by LCROS, mobile civil registration, mass wedding in selected municipalities, Civil Registration Lecture Series, CRM Quiz, and CRVS Infographics Contest.

Hon. Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, represented by Executive Assistant (EA) Justo H. Orros III, served as the Guest Speaker of the event. Mr. Orros relayed the Provincial Governor’s message highlighting the importance of civil registration and and her hopes to ensure inclusive civil registration not just during the observance of the CRM for the month of February of every year but all year round.

Moreover, Regional Director Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman of PSA – Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I) also delivered a message that inspired the City and Municipal Civil Registrars (C/MCRs) of the province to continue achieving the goals of the CRVS Decade.

Meanwhile, Statistical Specialist II (SS II) Joseph E. Estoesta of PSA - RSSO I disseminated on the latest vital statistics of Ilocos Region. Similarly, Registration Office I (RO I) Mart Marciano Antonn A. Aromin of PSA-La Union presented the latest vital statistics of La Union for the C/MCRs to have better appreciation of the data that can be generated from the registration of vital events. 

The ceremony was concluded by MCR Laida G. Rico of Aringay, LUCRA President, who extended her appreciation to the participants for joining the opening ceremony for the 34^th CRM. She also solicited the support of her fellow C/MCRs to the civil registration initiatives of the PSA and the LUCRA for the continuous improvement of civil registration services in the province.
