The Ilocos Region’s eggplant production in 2023 was estimated at 95,281 metric tons.
The Ilocos Region was the top producing region of eggplant in the country, sharing 39.93 percent of the 238,597 metric tons of the total national production in 2023.
As shown in the figure, bulk of produce was noted during the 2nd quarter and the least during the 3rd quarter, both in 2022 and 2023.
In 1st quarter 2023, eggplant production in the Ilocos Region was estimated at 32,654 metric tons, lower by 217 metric tons compared to the production of 32,871 metric tons in 1st quarter 2022. Likewise, eggplant production during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023 were lower than the 2022 produce. Compared to the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2022 estimates of 65,387 metrics tons and 589 metric tons, the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2023 production were lower by 4,923 metric tons and 19 metric tons, respectively.
Meanwhile, 4th quarter 2023 eggplant production was noted at 1,593 metric tons, higher than the 4th quarter 2022 production of 1,537 metric tons.
By Province
Production decreases were noted in La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Pangasinan. In La Union, the recorded eggplant production in 2023 was 2,360 metric tons, a decrease of 75 metric tons from the 2022 production of 2,435 metric tons. Ilocos Norte’s eggplant production decreased to 8,338 metric tons in 2023 from the production of 8,519 metric tons in 2022. Furthermore, eggplant production in Pangasinan went down to 76,210 metric tons from the recorded output of 81,443 metric tons in 2022.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Sur marked an increase of 387 metric tons from the production of 7,986 metric tons in 2022 to 8,373 metric tons in 2023.
Though the eggplant production in Pangasinan decreased, bulk of the regional output came from the province with share of 80.0 percent. Meanwhile, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte shared 8.8 percent, and 8.7 percent respectively, to the region’s production. La Union has the least contribution with 2.5 percent share.
