Eggplant production in llocos Region in 2022 was 100,383.01 metric tons, an increase of 2.68 percent over the output of 97,759.14 metric tons in 2021.

Ilocos Region was the top producer of eggplant with 40.45 percent share to the country’s total output of 248,151.43 metric tons in 2022.

Bulk of the region’s output was contributed by Pangasinan with a share of 81.13 percent. This was followed by llocos Norte with a share of 8.49 percent, llocos Sur with 7.96 percent share, and La Union with 2.43 percent share.

Increases in eggplant production were noted in llocos Norte, llocos Sur and Pangasinan by 3.54 percent, 15.96 percent and 1.63 percent. La Union posted a production drop of 2.89 percent (Table 1).

The peak harvest of eggplant is 2nd quarter and the lean harvest period is 3rd quarter. Production increases of 3.35 percent, 2.54 percent and 3.87 percent were noted in 1st quarter, 2nd quarter and 4th quarter 2022, respectively. However, a drop of 4.72 percent was recorded in 3rd quarter 2022.
