The Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office I (PSA-RSSO I) will conduct the October 2019 Labor Force Survey (LFS) starting 8 October 2019 together with its two rider surveys, the Kasambahay Rider Module and 2019 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF).
About 1,491 sample households, deemed sufficient to generate regional estimates, will be visited in Ilocos Region by 18 hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) and eight regular field personnel who will act as Team Supervisors (TS) from October 8 to 31, 2019 using the Computer Aided Personal Interview (CAPI) for the LFS and its riders.
The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households, designed to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. This survey aims to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market. Specifically, the LFS is designed to collect information on the distribution of household population 15 years old and over, distribution of employed persons, distribution of underemployed persons, and distribution of unemployed persons.
The SOF is a nationwide survey which seeks to gather information on Filipino citizens who left abroad during the last five years. It aims to provide data on overseas Filipinos particularly the Overseas Contract Workers (OCWs) and their contribution to the economy. It also aims to obtain national estimates on the number of overseas Filipinos including overseas workers and their socio-economic characteristics and provide estimates on the amount of cash and in-kind transfer received by the families and mode of remittances.
The Kasambahay Rider Module will gather data on the employment and working conditions of domestic workers in the country. This survey aims to generate information on the employment and working conditions of domestic workers focusing on indicators necessary to the setting of minimum wages based on the concept of a minimum wage and relevant laws (RA 6727, RA 10631 and National Wages Productivity Commission guidelines).
The PSA enjoins the respondents of the October 2019 LFS and Barangay Officials of the covered barangays to extend their full support and cooperation to our SRs for the successful implementation of the surveys. The respondents are assured that all information collected from them shall be kept strictly confidential. Section 26 of Republic Act 10625 stipulates that individual data furnished by the respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses of the PSA shall be considered as privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding. The PSA may release data gathered from surveys and censuses only in the form of summaries or statistical tables, in which no reference to an individual, corporation, association, partnership, institution or business enterprise shall appear.
