Release Date:
Reference Number: 2018 - 11

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting the October 2018 Labor Force Survey (LFS) starting 8 October 2018. For this round, the LFS has two rider surveys, the Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF) and the Unified Socio-Economic Classification (1SEC).

LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households, designed to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. This survey aims to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market. Specifically, LFS is designed to collect information on the distribution of household population 15 years old and over, distribution of employed persons, distribution of underemployed persons, and distribution of unemployed persons.

Similarly, SOF is a nationwide survey which seeks to gather information on Filipino citizens who left abroad during the last five years. It aims to obtain national estimates on the number of overseas Filipinos including overseas workers and their socio-economic characteristics and to provide estimates on the amount of cash and in-kind transfer received by the families and mode of remittance.

1SEC targets to create a standard and endorsable instrument to classify households into socio-economic clusters in the Philippines that can be used across public and private institutions. It aims to come up with a unified and applicable instrument relevant to any and all types of studies which require socioeconomic classification. This survey is a joint initiative of the Marketing and Opinion Research Society of the Philippines (MORES), the PSA, the University of the Philippines School of Statistics (UPSS) and the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI),

Enumeration of these surveys will be undertaken until 31 October 2018.

The data collected under the October 2018 LFS, SOF and 1SEC shall be covered by the confidentiality of information clause under Section 26 of RA 10625, which stipulates that individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses of the PSA shall be considered privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding.
