Religious Affiliation in llocos Region

Roman Catholics comprise 82.0 percent of the llocos Region household population

The llocos Region household population was dominated by Roman Catholics with 4,338,887 or 82.0 percent of the total 5,292,297 household population of the llocos Region in 2020. It was followed by Iglesia ni Cristo with 181,885 persons (3.44 percent) and Aglipay with 104,366 (1.97 percent).

Pangasinan has the higher proportion of Roman Catholics

Among the provinces in the region, Pangasinan has the highest proportion of household population who reported that Roman Catholic is their religious affiliation. The province has 2,715,621 recorded Roman Catholics, comprising 62.6 percent of the total Roman Catholics in the region. La Union followed with 16.0 percent, equivalent to 695,867 persons. Ilocos Sur has a share of 13.2 percent (574,136 persons), and llocos Norte with 8.2 percent share (353,263 persons).

Iglesia ni Cristo ranks second religion in terms of affiliation of household population

There were 181,885 persons in the region reported Iglesia ni Cristo as their religious affiliation. It comprised 3.4 percent of the total household population in the Ilocos Region. Pangasinan has the largest number of household population among the provinces in the region that were affiliated in this religion in 2020. The province has 111,149 persons who are Iglesia ni Cristo members. Ilocos Norte followed with 30,678 persons, La Union with 23,374 members and Ilocos Norte with 16,684 persons.

Islam and Buddhism in the llocos Region

There were also household population in the llocos Region who reported Islam and Buddhism as their religious affiliations. In summary, they accounted at least 13 thousand persons or 0.25 percent of the total household population.

There were 12,475 household population in the liocos Region that reported Islam as their religion in 2020. More than half lived in Pangasinan with 7,03 (56.38 percent), 2,021 (16.20 percent) in La Union, 1,932 (15.49 percent) in liocos Sur, and 1,489 (11.94 percent) in llocos Norte.

Meanwhile, a total of 653 household population in the liocos Region in 2020 were Buddhist believers. Of this total, 360 persons, or 55.13 percent lived in Pangasinan, 24.96 percent from La Union, 10.41 percent from llocos Norte, and 9.50 percent from llocos Sur.
