Regional Statistical Services Office 01 conducted the four-day training for the July 2024 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2024 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) on 27 to 30 June 2024 in the City of San Fernando, La Union. Statistical Analyst (SA) Angelika Galvez from the PSA-Central Office, SA Uriel V. Patacsil and Statistical Specialist II (SS II) Joseph E. Estoesta served as trainers during the training. Focal persons and Statistical Researchers for July 2024 LFS and 2024 APIS in the four provinces of the region were the participants of the training.

The Labor Force Survey (LFS) is a nationwide survey of households conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to gather data on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population. It provides information as a basis for formulating policies and programs aimed at creating and generating gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reducing unemployment and underemployment, and enhancing the welfare of workers. The LFS offers statistics on the levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment for the country and its regions. It is also used for projecting future human resources, which, when compared with future manpower requirements, helps identify employment and training needs and assess the potential human resources available for economic development.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) is the fifteenth in a series of poverty indicators surveys conducted nationwide since 1998. This survey gathers data to generate non-income indicators related to poverty, which will be used to assess and monitor the poverty situation in the country. The information collected will also be used to estimate proxy indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals (Goals 1, 6, and 16).

The July 2024 LFS and 2024 APIS enumeration will start on 08 July 2024 until on 31 July 2024. The PSA enjoins all the sample households to support and participate in both surveys by providing truthful information.
