Pangasinan
Inflation rate in the Philippines escalated to 6.9 percent in September 2022 from 6.3 percent in August. This leads to the country’s average inflation rate of 5.1 percent. Inflation rate of the country in September 2021 was posted at 4.2 percent (see Table A).
Similarly, Ilocos Region recorded an increase in the inflation rate at 6.6 percent in September 2022, which was higher than that in August at 6.2 percent. This leads to the region’s average inflation rate of 5.3 percent. Inflation rate of the region in September 2021 was posted at 4.6 percent (see Table A).
Headline inflation rate in Pangasinan eased to 6.4 percent in September 2022 from 6.5 percent in August (see Figure 1). This leads to the province’s average inflation rate of 5.0 percent.
The province’s inflation rate in September 2022 was mainly brought about by the highest increased inflation rate in the index for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels at 12.0 percent (see Table C). Also contributing to the overall inflation rate of the province during the month were the increased inflation rates in the following commodities:
a. Health, 7.4 percent;
b. Personal Care, Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 5.9 percent;
c. Education Services, 4.2 percent;
d. Clothing and Footwear, 3.2 percent; and
e. Information and Communication, 1.4 percent.
On the other hand, inflation rate of Pangasinan in September 2022 was also brought about by the decline in the indices of the following commodities:
a. Transport, 13.5 percent;
b. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 7.3 percent;
c. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, 4.6 percent; and
d. Recreation, Sports, and Culture, 3.1 percent.
Meanwhile, the following commodities retained their previous month’s inflation rates:
a. Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance, 5.4 percent;
b. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 2.4 percent; and
c. Financial Services, 0.0 percent.
Specifically, inflation rate of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels in September 2022 was reported at 12.0 percent, which was higher from 11.4 percent in August. Inflation rate of this commodity group was lower at 2.2 percent in September 2021 (see Table D).
Commodity group of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels significantly contributed to the province’s inflation rate due to the increase in liquid fuels at 55.5 percent and in electricity at 39.6 percent in September 2022. Similarly, inflation rates in the same month for the liquefied hydrocarbons, materials for maintenance and repair of dwelling, and water supply through network systems soared to 10.4 percent, 7.8 percent, and 7.0 percent, respectively. The rest of the items retained their previous month’s inflation rates (i.e., actual rentals paid by tenants for main residence, services for the maintenance and repair of dwelling, and charcoal).
