The Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office I (PSA- RSSOI) gathered together the representatives of Regional Line Agencies (RLA), Local Government Units (LGUs) and private sectors in a symposium on November 7, 2018 at the Ariana Hotel and Restaurant in Paringao, Bauang, La Union. The said forum aimed to disseminate information on the results of 2017 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).
During the event, Dr. Danites E. Teñido, OIC of PSA La Union acknowledged the representatives across the region. She also highlighted the significance of NDHS to planning, policy making, and evaluation of population and health programs of the country anchored on the attainment of related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Niño E. Tuazon, OIC PSA RSSOI Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), presented the Survey Methodology, Household and Respondents Characteristics of the 2017 NDHS for Region I. According to him, out of 27,855 sample households in Region I, 27,496 households were interviewed corresponding to a total of 99% response rate. On the other hand, out of 25,690 eligible women respondents, 25,074 were interviewed with a total of 98% response rate.
Moreover, Senior Statistical Specialist Randy Valdez of the Social Sector Statistics Service (SSSS) imparted the key findings of the 2017 NDHS national results. Project Evaluation Officer Mr. Roy Gerson Torres of the Commission on Population Regional Office I (POPCOM RO I) discussed topics on Family Planning in line with the Population Management Program (PMP) while Ms. Emeryn Victori, Statistician II of the Department of Health Region I (DOH RO I), reported the 2017 data from the Field and Health Services Information System (FHSIS). Both of them integrated the results of NDHS 2017 in their respective presentation.
Data on Fertility and Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health and Breastfeeding, Childhood Mortality, Knowledge on HIV, Attitudes and Behaviour, Health Utilization and Finances were also presented by Mr. Tuazon and Eng. Divino Amor Rivera. Meanwhile, Ms. Marieta A. Piaoan, Statistical Specialist II of PSA La Union presented the data on Women Empowerment and Domestic Violence.
As part of the workshop, Statistical Specialist Engr. Rivera introduced the Demographic Health Surveys Program Mobile App where users can utilize the statcompiler using android and IOS devices. Through this app, the users can make customized tables based on thousands of demographic and health indicators across countries and share it through Facebook, Twitter, Email or Messaging.
The 2017 Philippines National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS 2017) is designed to collect information on fertility levels and preferences, family planning, maternal and child health, infant and child mortality, awareness on HIV/AIDS, and violence against women in the country. It is the 11th national demographic survey conducted in the country since 1968. Said survey were implemented by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in partnership with USAID which provided technical assistance and equipment through ICF under the DHS Program.
