The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I) and PSA – La Union entrusted to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bangar, La Union the results of 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) through a Data Turnover Ceremony (DTC) attended by the LGU Bangar officials, department heads and staff, and civic groups in the afternoon of 22 December 2023 at the Mini Gym, Central West No. 2, Bangar, La Union.
A symbolic data was handed over by Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Juanito Y. Yabes, of the PSA - RSSO I Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), together with Dr. Danites E. Teñido, CSS of PSA – La Union, to the LGU of Bangar headed by Mayor Joy Pinzon Merin.
On behalf of PSA - RSSO, I Regional Director Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman, CSS Yabes delivered the opening message, expressing delight that Bangar is one of the LGUs in the province to have disaggregated data down to the barangay level through the CBMS.
For the LGU officials, department heads and staff, and civic groups to appreciate the results of the 2022 CBMS, Dr. Teñido presented the highlights of the 2022 CBMS results for LGU Bangar. The presentation included data on basic services such as access to electricity and internet, main sources of water for drinking and for general use, service level of toilet facility, households’ perception on safety when walking alone in the community, household food insecurity experience in the past 12 months, education, labor force and employment, education facilities, health facilities, and disaster preparedness. These data were collected from a total of 9,494 responding households covering a total population of 37,007 from 33 participating barangays of Bangar, La Union as of 01 July 2022.
Meanwhile, Mayor Merin, in her acceptance message, thanked the PSA for the support and assistance in the implementation of the 2022 CBMS in the municipality. She mentioned that these local-level data will serve as foundational resource for informed decision-making, strategic planning, and effective implementation of various programs and initiatives at the community level.
Moreover, EnP. Glynnis S. Casuga, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC), presented the plans and programs for the strategic utilization and security measures surrounding the data derived from the 2022 CBMS. EnP. Casuga underscored the LGU’s dedication to transforming data into actionable insights that can drive community development.
Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Malvin A. Quinto, Alternate CBMS Provincial Focal Person of PSA-La Union, thanked the LGU of Bangar for the hard work, dedication and commitment in the implementation of 2022 CBMS in his closing message. SSS Quinto expressed his hope that the data generated from the CBMS be fully utilized in crafting policies and programs towards poverty alleviation and socio-economic development in Bangar, La Union.
The CBMS is an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data that may be used for planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring at the local level while empowering communities to participate in the process. It involves the generation of data at the local level which serves as basis in targeting households for government programs geared towards poverty alleviation and economic development.
