The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducted a six-day training for the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (2024 POPCEN-CBMS) Data Collection and Geotagging Provincial Level Training from 17 to 22 June 2024 at the J&V Hotel and Resort, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The training was attended by PSA-La Union regular personnel and 29 hired Census Area Supervisors (CAS) in the province of La Union.

The six-day training aimed to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills on the concepts, definitions, and processes of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS.

Resource speakers from PSA-La Union were: Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Danites E. Teñido,PhD, Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Malvin A. Quinto, Statistical Specialist II (SS II) Engr. Leny Grace S. Balanon, SS II Joselito C. Garcia, and Information Systems Analyst I (ISA I) April Joy P. Monis, while resource speaker from PSA-Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I) was SS II May-ann Cacho.

Regional Director Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman of PSA-RSSO I also graced the first day of the training and provided a message highlighting the significant role of every personnel involved in the census operations to ensure the successful implementation of the 2024 POCEN-CBMS in the province of La Union.

The training session also included interactive workshops and open forum, allowing the participants to seek clarifications to deepen their understanding of the topics being discussed, ensuring readiness for the rigorous tasks ahead in data collection and geotagging for the 2024 census.

During the training, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Region I also provided assistance for the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS through free notarization of contracts, Personal Data Sheet (PDS), and Oath of Data Privacy of the hired CAS.

The POPCEN refers to the complete process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing, publishing, and disseminating data about the population in the country. The POPCEN is designed to take an inventory of the total population in the Philippines. On the other hand, the CBMS is an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data at the local level. These data may be used as a basis in targeting Philippine households in the planning, budgeting, and implementation of government programs geared towards poverty alleviation and economic development.

In July to September 2024, the PSA will simultaneously conduct the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS data collection and geotagging activities.
