Marine municipal fisheries volume of production decreases by 8.35 percent
Marine municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 6,881.75 metric tons in first quarter 2023, or 8.4 percent lower than the 6,307.24 metric tons produced in first quarter 2024.
Ilocos Norte has the highest increment in the volume of marine municipal production at 51.3 percent followed by Ilocos Sur with 7.4 percent increase. On the other hand, the marine municipal fisheries production of Pangasinan and La Union declined by 27.6 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively.
By provincial share, Pangasinan contributed 1,834.15 metric tons, equivalent to 29.0 percent share of the region's marine municipal production. La Union followed with a production of 1,814.97 metric tons or 28.8 percent, Ilocos Sur with 1,385.53 metric tons equivalent to 22.0 percent, and Ilocos Norte with 20.2 percent of the total marine municipal production of the region.
The top 5 species captured in municipal marine fisheries were squid, skipjack, roundscad, yellowfin tuna and anchovies.
Squid recorded the highest volume of marine municipal fisheries production of 967.85 metric tons, which comprises 15.4 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. Its production increased by 14.5 percent from the 845.02 metric tons output in first quarter 2023.
Production of skipjack in the region recorded 854.14 metric tons or 13.5 percent of the total marine fisheries in the region. Its output increased by 58.6 percent compared to its level in the same quarter of 2023.
Roundscad production was estimated at 528.06 metric tons, increased by 107.7 percent in first quarter 2024. Yellowfin tuna, and anchovies also grew by 17.1 percent and 193.7 percent, respectively.
