Coffee production in the Ilocos Region in 2023 was estimated at 75.91 metric tons. This was 2.5 percent higher than the output of 74.09 metric tons in 2022.
The peak harvest of coffee in the Ilocos Region is during the first semester period. The recorded production during the period was at 66.26 metric tons, exceeding the output in 2022 of 65.65 metric tons. Meanwhile, the output in the second half of 2023 was posted at 9.65 metric tons, higher by 14.3 percent from the record in 2022.
Among the coffee varieties grown in the Ilocos Region, coffee arabica registered the highest production of 34.85 metric tons in 2023. It was followed by coffee robusta with 34.60 metric tons. Coffee excelsa and liberica production posted 6.44 metric tons and 0.03 metric tons, respectively. Volume of production of all varieties in 2023 were higher compared to the 2022 levels.
Ilocos Sur has the highest volume of coffee production among the provinces with a share of 44.5 percent to the region’s output in 2023. Pangasinan followed with a share of 40.7 percent, and
La Union with 12.7 percent. Ilocos Norte has the least contribution, with 2.1 percent of the region’s production.
All provinces posted increases in green coffee production in 2023. La Union has the highest positive growth by 13.2 percent, while Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Pangasinan recorded increases of 5.2 percent, 1.1 percent, and 0.8 percent, respectively.
