Majority of ever-married women in Ilocos Region have an average of two children

The Ilocos region registered 841,949 ever-married women (EMW) aged 15 to 49 and 1,748,533 children ever born (CEB). On average, these women have 2.1 children signifying there are at least two children in a household in the region.

EMW aged 30 to 39 years old has the highest figure in the number of children born alive

Of the 841 thousand EMW in the Ilocos Region, 18.57 percent belonged to the 35 to 39 years old group (Figure 2). Similarly, about 235 thousand or 27.90 percent of the total EMW have two children, 21.60 percent of whom are 30 - 34 years old (Table 1). EMW with one child registered the highest number under the age group 25 to 29 years old at 51 thousand. (Table 1)

The majority of EMW in the Ilocos Region have live children

There are 730 thousand EMW with children still living in the Ilocos Region in 2020. Among the fertility age group, EMW aged 35 to 39 years old have the highest number of women with living children with 143 thousand. (Table 2)

EMW in the age group 25 to 29 years old recorded 51,774 women with one child, the highest among the group and was closely followed by the age group 25 to 29 years with two children. (Table 2)

EMW aged 35 to 39 years posts the highest number of children ever born alive from 01 May 2019 to 30 April 2020.

The proportion of children ever born alive by from 01 May 2019 to 30 April 2020 peaked at 35 to 39 years of age by EMW. It covered 19.51 percent of the total number of EMW with children still living in the Ilocos Region. The lowest was the age group 15 to 19 years old with 1.75 percent of the total. (Figure 3)

Median age at first marriage among EMW was 22.2 years

In 2020, the median age at first marriage among EMW in Ilocos Region was 22.2 years. The age at first marriage refers to the age of the woman when she first got married or lived in a consensual union.

The Ilocos region was one of the six regions with a median higher than the national figure of 21.6 years.
