The volume of palay production in the Ilocos Region registered higher growth in the 3rd quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023. The production was recorded at 192,872 metric tons, or 2.8 percent higher than the 187,608 metric tons output in the 3rd quarter of 2023. Ilocos Region ranked 9th among the regions accounting for 5.8 percent of the total palay production of the country in the 3rd quarter of 2024.
As to the harvest area, the region recorded a decrease of 0.8 percent from the 39,445 hectares in the 3rd quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare increased from 4.75 metric tons to 4.93 metric tons.


Pangasinan had the highest palay production among the provinces, contributing 51.3 percent of the total output of the region in 3rd quarter 2024. The province posted a production of 98,910 metric tons during the period, lower than the output of 99,537 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2023.The area harvested also decreased by 0.3 percent from 20,608 hectares in 3rd quarter 2023 to 20,537 hectares in the 3rd quarter of 2024. Likewise, the yield per hectare went down from 4.83 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2023 to 4.82 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2024. (Table 1)

The province of Ilocos Norte, which shared 24.8 percent to the total palay production of the Ilocos Region in 3rd quarter 2024, recorded 47,807 metric tons output. This is 10.7 percent higher than the production of 43,194 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2023. The harvest area during the period went down from 9,357 hectares to 9,234 hectares. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare increased from 4.62 metric tons to 5.18 metric tons. (Table 1)
The volume of palay production in Ilocos Sur registered 30,609 metric tons with a 15.8 percent share to the total production of the region. The output decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the 30,733 production in 3rd quarter 2023. The harvest area also decreased from 6,348 hectares to 5,909 hectares during the period. However, the yield per hectare increased from 4.84 metric tons to 5.18 metric tons. (Table 1)
The province of La Union, which shared 8.1 percent to the total palay production of the Ilocos Region in 3rd quarter 2024, recorded 15,546 metric tons during the period. The output was higher by 9.9 percent from the 14,143 metric tons record in 3rd quarter 2023. The harvest area increased from 3,132 hectares to 3,440 hectares. The yield per hectare also increased by 0.07 metric tons.
