Hog production in liocos Region increased by 38.69 percent
The total hog production in llocos Region increased to 33,314.56 metric tons liveweight in first semester 2023. This was 38.69 percent higher than the 24,020.61 metric tons liveweight in first semester 2022, and it was also higher by 14.71 percent compared to the second semester 2022 level.
Ilocos Region contributed 3.87 percent to the national production of 860.71 thousand metric tons liveweight, ranking 11th among regions in the country in terms of hog production.
Swine inventory in the region as of January and April 2023 increases
The total headcount of swine in Ifocos Region as of 01 January 2023 was 357,232 heads which increased by 37.55 percent from the inventory as of 01 January 2022 of 259,712 heads. Likewise, swine inventory as of 01 April 2023 registered an upward trend of 47.79 percent compared to the same date last year.
By province, increases in swine population as of 01 January 2023 were noted in llocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan by 64.40 percent, 50.74 percent, and 116.60 percent, respectively, compared to the same reference date in 2022. Only llocos Norte posted a decrease in inventory as of 01 January 2023 by 17.28 percent.
An increase in the number of hog headcounts in all provinces was noted as of 01 April 2023 compared to the same reference date in 2022
Farmgate Price
The average farm price of hog for slaughter in backyard farms in the first semester 2023 was PhP177.81 per kilo liveweight. This was lower by 12.20 percent than the average price of PhP 202.51 per kilo liveweight in first semester 2022.
The highest price recorded in first semester 2023 was PhP 183.48 per kilo in May.
