LGU Burgos is first to receive 2022 CBMS results in La Union

The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office I (PSA - RSSO I) and PSA - La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducted the first Data Turnover Ceremony (DTC) for the 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) results in La Union on 13 November 2023 at the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Burgos, La Union. 

Among the officials in attendance were: Regional Director (RD) Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman of PSA-RSSO I, Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Juanito Y. Yabes of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), PSA-RSSO I, CSS Dr. Danites E. Teñido of PSA-La Union, Statistical Specialist I (SS I) Keziah D. Odtujan of the Community-Based Statistics Division (CBSD), Municipal Mayor Honorable Delfin C. Comedis Jr., Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MDPC) EnP Lina S. Crispin, department heads and staff of LGU Burgos and other PSA technical staff.

“As we enter this new chapter, remember that data is not merely a collection of numbers and figures; it represents real experiences, unique perspectives, and untapped potential. Let us treat it with the respect it deserves, acknowledging the responsibility we hold in ensuring its accuracy, integrity, and security,” said Atty. De Guzman in her opening message.

The highlights of the 2022 CBMS results were presented by Dr. Teñido. The presentation included data on basic services such as access to electricity and internet, main sources of water for drinking and for general use, service level of toilet facility, households’ perception on safety when walking alone in the community, household food insecurity experience in the past 12 months, education, labor force and employment, education facilities, health facilities, and disaster preparedness. These data were collected from a total of 2,157 responding households covering a total population of 8,669 from 12 participating barangays of Burgos, La Union as of 01 July 2022.

Mayor Comedis, in his acceptance message, thanked the PSA for implementing the CBMS in their municipality and making the CBMS data available, which they could use to plan and meet the needs of their constituents. According to him, the CBMS results will be a big help not only in Burgos but in the whole country. He also thanked all the personnel involved in the conduct of CBMS for their hard work and support in the CBMS rollout. Moreover, he appreciated that Burgos was the first municipality to conduct its 2022 CBMS Data Turnover Ceremony in the Province of La Union.

Meanwhile, EnP Crispin presented the plans and programs enhanced using CBMS Data. According to her, the CBMS data will serve as an invaluable resource to local planners offering a comprehensive information regarding the prevailing condition, needs, and available resources within each barangay. Moreover, the CBMS data will be of great help in the identification of priority areas and monitoring of the progress and impact of the interventions designed for poverty alleviation.

The CBMS DTC is another significant event that was made possible through the full cooperation and support extended by the officials and key personnel of LGU Burgos. The CBMS will give the LGU an accurate picture of the community and assessment of its poverty status that will help the LGU allocate resources more effectively and efficiently, thus improving the lives of their constituents.
