The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - La Union Provincial Office conducted the second round of its Kapuso Outreach Program at Home for Girls, Brgy. San Nicolas West, Agoo, La Union on 18 April 2023.

The Home for Girls of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is primarily a residential treatment facility for girl children aged 7 to below 18 years old who have been removed from their families due to sexual abuse or exploitation and have been taken custody by the state.

During the conduct of the activity, teaching techniques in solving basic math operations, gift of giving, ceremonial feeding, and information dissimenation were conducted, which benefit 46 girl children. The sharing of different techniques to solve math operation was performed by the six Bachelor of Science in Mathematics students On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs) of PSA-La Union from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC). The activity included series of exercises to assess the children’s progress on the lesson learned.

Moreover, Statistical Specialist II Engr. Leny Grace Balanon of PSA-La Union shared relevant information on Men and Women in La Union based on the result of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH).

The outreach activity was a success with the girls’ wide smiles and the staff members’ gratitude that made the PSA-La Union personnel and OJTs’ efforts worthwhile.

The Kapuso Outreach Program is part of PSA-La Union’s commitment to go beyond its mandates by adopting a marginalized institution/community/school or barangay every quarter.
