The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Ilocos Region – Regional Statistical Services Office I in celebration of Women’s Month every March issues a Special Release on Women and Men in the region.

This special release presents information through analysis, charts, and tables gender-disaggregated data taken from 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) results of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Males dominated Ilocos Region’s household population 10 Years Old and Over

1. Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, Ilocos Region had a household population of 5,292,297 persons. Of this total, 81.5 percent or 4,312,927 persons were ten years old and over, with 50.4 percent males and 49.6 percent females.

2. Of the 4.31 million persons in Ilocos Region aged ten years and over in 2020, 1.78 million persons (41.4 percent) were married, while 1.67 million persons (38.7 percent) were single. The remaining household population aged ten years old and over was categorized as follows: in common-law/live-in marital arrangement with 12.4 percent, widowed with 5.5 percent, and divorced/separated/annulled and Unknown with 1.9 percent.

3. Of the 4.31 million persons ten years old and over in Ilocos Region, 2.17 million or 50.4 percent were males, while 2.14 million or 49.6 percent were females.

4. Among the males ten years old and over in the Ilocos Region, 42.2 percent were single and dominated the region’s household population. Similarly, there were more males with married and, common-law or live-in marital status than females.

Females in Ilocos Region were more likely to get married then become widowed or divorced.

5. Females in Ilocos Region were more likely to get married then become widowed or divorced. Of the total number of widowed (239.2 thousand) ten years old and over, 184 thousand or 76.8 percent were females. Similarly, there were more females with divorced/separated/annulled and unknown marital status than males covering 56.7 percent and 55.7 percent, respectively, of the total number.

There were more young single males but more adult single females in the Ilocos Region

6. Most of the household population ten years old and over with single marital status belonged to below 20 years old. They covered 58.1 percent of the total single marital status in the region.

7. There were more teen to adult single males than females. However, starting from the 55 years old age onwards, single females outnumbered the population of single males.

Marriages were more likely to happen at ages 35 to 54 years old in Ilocos Region

8. In Ilocos Region, marriages were more likely to happen at ages 35 to 54 years old with the age bracket 40 to 44 having the highest household population with married marital status.

9.There were more married females 40 years old below but more married males from onward.

Young adults in the Ilocos Region were more likely to resort to live-in or common-law

10Young adults from 25 to 34 years old in the Ilocos Region were more likely to resort to live-in or common-law marital status. The age group covered at most 34.5 percent of the total household population with the same marital status.

11. On the other hand, females 80 years and over dominated males with 70.0 percent share to the total.

Most of the widowed in the Ilocos Region were female senior citizens

12. The number of widowed females in 2020 was at least three times more than the number of widowed males. Most of the widows were 80 years and over posting the highest record at 36.00 thousand or 15.0 percent of the total household population with widowed marital status.

Most of the occurrence of separation in Ilocos Region happens at 30 to 44 years old

13. Similar to the case of widowed marital status, females dominated the number of divorced, separated, or annulled marital statuses in the Ilocos Region. The highest number of divorced, separated, or annulled cases were 40 to 44 years old at 12.32 thousand persons. That figure was followed by 11.93 thousand and 9.70 thousand in the age group 35 to 39 years old and 30 to 34 years old, respectively.
