The number of establishments in 2020 in the Ilocos Region receded by 10.9 percent from the 2019 total number of establishments. These establishments are composed of three broad sectors: agriculture sector, industry sector, and services sector.

Out of the 10,362 establishments recorded in 2020 in the Ilocos region, 90.3 percent were from the services sector with 9,357 establishments. This was followed by the industry sector with 904 establishments then agriculture with 101 establishments.

The recorded number of establishments in the service sector in the Ilocos Region was estimated at 9,357 in 2020. The record was less by 1,236 compared to 10,593 establishments in 2019. Similarly, the number of establishments in the agriculture sector decreased to 101 from 141 establishments in 2019. On the other hand, an increase of two establishments was recorded in the industrial sector.

According to sectors, Wholesale and Retail Trade; The repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles led to the number of establishments with 4,388 establishments. Financial and Insurance Activities ranked second in the sector with the highest number of establishments at 2,017. The third sector with the highest number of establishments was Accommodation and Food Service Activities at 1,075. Collectively, other sectors recorded 2,882 establishments in 2020.

The total number of workers in the Ilocos Region fell to 135,608 from the 187,741 estimated total number of workers in 2019, a decrease of 27.8 percent. All the three broad industry sectors registered decreases in the number of workers.

Most of the workers in the Ilocos Region in 2020 were from the services sector at 114,450 workers. Meanwhile, the Industry and Agriculture sectors recorded 18,402 workers and 2,756 workers, respectively.

According to sectors, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles has the most workers at 47,978. It was followed by Education, and Financial and Insurance Activities with a total number of employees of 16,485 and 14,049, respectively. Meanwhile, other sectors garnered a total of 57,096 workers.
