From January 9 to 31, 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union conducts the Quarterly Labor Force Survey (LFS) January 2023 round.

The LFS is a nationwide survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. It provides information as a basis for formulating policies and programs to create and generate gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reduce unemployment and underemployment, and enhance the welfare of a working person.

This round of LFS includes questions on functional difficulty and migration activities. As defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) of the World, functioning is an umbrella term for body functions, body structures, activities, and participation. The purpose is to identify persons with serious vision, hearing, walking, remembering, concentrating, self-care (i.e., bathing and dressing), and/or communication limitations that contribute to difficulty in doing their daily activities. Meanwhile, information on migration in the last five years can be used as inputs on the migration rates for the generation/updating of population projection and on the migration experience of the household members before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PSA-La Union hired six (6) Statistical Researchers (SRs) to interview at least 401 sample households located in 12 city/municipalities in La Union through the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) approach using tablets.

PSA-La Union enjoins everyone, especially the sample households, to support the January 2023 LFS by participating and providing complete and truthful data. Sample households are assured that the hired SRs will adhere to the health and safety protocols to protect themselves and the respondents from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Pursuant to Section 19 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10173, known as the “Data Privacy Act,” all information that will be gathered from the survey will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Section 26 of RA No. 10625 also stipulates that “individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses conducted by the PSA shall be considered privilege communication and shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding.”
