The corn production in the Ilocos Region in 3rd quarter 2022 declined by 3.79 percent. From the output of 8,919 metric tons in the same period of 2021, it went down to 8,581 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2022. The harvest area declined from 1,990 hectares to 1,870 hectares. However, the yield per hectare has an output increase from 4.48 metric tons to 4.59 metric tons.

The provinces of La Union and Pangasinan recorded positive growth for said commodity, while Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur experienced contraction.

About 53.68 percent of the total corn production of the Ilocos Region in 3rd quarter 2022 were yellow corn and the rest were white corn. In terms of the area harvested, white corn comprised 57.00 percent while 43.00 percent were yellow corn.

The bulk of corn harvest in 3rd quarter 2022 came from Ilocos Sur with 51.59 percent share in the total corn production in Ilocos Region. During the period, the province recorded 4,427 metric tons volume of corn production. This is lower by 3.97 percent from the 4,610 metric tons output in the same period of 2021. Similarly, the harvest area decreased from 1,016 hectares to 947 hectares, of which, 64.73 percent were white corn. The yield per hectare went up from 4.54 metric tons to 4.67 metric tons during the period.

Pangasinan ranked second among the four provinces of the region in terms of volume of corn production with 32.05 percent share in 3rd quarter 2022. The province registered a production of 2,750 metric tons, higher by 0.95 percent from the output in 3rd quarter 2021 of 2,724 metric tons. The harvest area decreased 

from 578 hectares to 568 hectares. The yield per hectare, however, increased from 4.71 metric tons to 4.84 metric tons. Yellow corn dominated the corn areas of the province sharing 68.31 percent.

The province of La Union produced 733 metric tons of corn during the 3rd quarter 2022. This is 0.94 percent higher than the output in the previous year of the same period. The harvest area slightly decreased by 0.01 percent during the period. White corn comprised 94.91 percent of the total corn area harvested in the province, while the remaining were yellow corn. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare increased from 3.36 metric tons in the 3rd quarter 2021 to 3.39 metric tons in the same period this year. The province ranked third in terms of volume of corn production in 3rd quarter 2022 with 8.54 percent share.

The volume of corn production in Ilocos Norte decreased in 3rd quarter 2022. The output was posted at 671 metric tons, or 21.89 percent lower than the record in 3rd quarter 2021 of 859 metric tons. The harvest area also went down from 180 hectares to 139 hectares. Yellow corn contributed 51.08 percent of the total corn area in the province. The yield per hectare increased from 4.77 metric tons to 4.83 metric tons. Ilocos Norte shared 7.82 percent to the total volume of corn production in 3rd quarter 2022.
