The commercial fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region  was posted at 1,007.32 metric tons in the 2nd quarter 2021. The output  was lower by 29.92 percent than the level in 2nd quarter 2020  of 1,437.30 metric tons. 

The   decrease in output of Pangasinan pulled down the overall commercial fisheries production of the region.

The top five major catch in the region during the 2nd quarter 2021  were roundscad, skipjack,yellowfin tuna, big-eyed scad and threadfin bream.

In terms of provincial shares, Pangasinan accounted for 58.30 percent  of the region’s commercial fisheries volume of production in 2nd quarter 2021. The province recorded a production of 587.24 metric tons, lower than the output in 2nd quarter 2020 of 1,044.32 metric tons. Lesser fishing days, lesser unloadings in Sual Fishport in Pangasinan and less presence of school of fish contributed to the lower volume of catch. 

The top five major catch in Pangasinan during the quarter  were roundscad, skipjack, yellowfin tuna, assorted fish and frigate tuna.

La Union shared 26.74 percent to the total commercial fish catch  of the region in 2nd quarter 2021. It posted increment in output of 8.68 percent. From the 247.85 metric tons recorded in the 2nd quarter 2020, production grew to 269.36 metric tons in the 2nd quarter 2021 due to increased number of fishing days, presence of school of fish and bigger sizes of catch.

The top five major catch in La Union during the quarter were hairtail,  big-eyed scad, threadfin bream, slipmouth and indian mackerel.

Ilocos Sur contributed 14.96 percent to the total commercial fisheries volume of production in the 2nd quarter 2021. Its production of 150.72 metric tons, went up by 3.85 percent from the 145.13 metric tons output  in 2nd quarter 2020. Increased fishing trips and hours spent in the fishing grounds due lifting of travel restriction of commercial fishing vessels resulted to abundant fish catch.

Major species which contributed to the total output of the province include skipjack, roundscad, yellowfin tuna, and frigate tuna.
