Registered deaths in all provinces decreased in January 2021

  • Ilocos Region registered a total of 3,308 deaths in January 2021.
  • Pangasinan topped the highest number of deaths. Its share was more than half  (59 percent) of the total registered deaths in the region at 1,967 deaths.  
  • La Union and Ilocos Sur ranked second with 14 percent (479 and 448 deaths respectively). 
  • Ilocos Norte followed with 414 deaths (13 percent).
  • All provinces decreased in the number of deaths in January 2021 compared to January 2020.

Males outnumber females in terms of registered deaths

  • Males (1,824) outnumbered females (1,484) in terms of registered deaths  in January 2021.
  • In all provinces, there were more deaths in males than in females.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of registered male deaths with 1,053.  La Union followed at 284 registered male deaths.   
  • Most registered female deaths were also observed in Pangasinan with 914 deaths.  Ilocos Sur followed at 196 female deaths.

Deaths in the region were mostly medically attended

  • There were 1,487 total registered deaths that were attended by medical practitioners.
  • Deaths that were not medically attended reached up to 1,590.

Percentage of deaths attended by health professionals highest in La Union

  • La Union had the highest percentage of recorded deaths attended by health professionals with 65 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Norte, health professionals attended to 44 percent of the deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Sur, health professionals attended to 43 percent of the deaths in the province while 41 percent of the deaths registered in Pangasinan were attended by health professionals.   
  • Among provinces, Pangasinan had the most number of deaths assisted by health professionals at 802 deaths.

There were 42 corpses cremated in Ilocos Region in January 2021

  • Generally, corpses in the region were disposed through burial.  This month, there were 3,247 corpses who were buried.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of corpses buried while Ilocos Norte had the least number of buried corpses at 1,925 and 413, respectively.
  • Cremation is another option for corpse disposal.  In the region, there were 42 corpses registered in January 2021.
  • Pangasinan registered 33 cremated corpses while La Union listed 9 cremated corpses.
