Ilocos Region’s registered live births totaled 77,276 in 2019

There were 77,276 total live births registered in Ilocos Region in 2019.  Of this total, 40,729 were male and 36,547 were female. The sex ratio was 111:100 which means that there were 111 males live births for every 100 female live births.

Registered live births in the four provinces of the region in 2019  were dominated by male. Among the provinces, Pangasinan recorded  the highest live births based on the usual residence of mother,  sharing  63.2 percent to the total registered live births. 

There were 25,819 male live births during the period, while 23,015  were female. In La Union, a total of 11,185 live births were registered  in 2019, of which 5,881 were male and 5,304 were female. The province shared 14.5 percent to the overall registered live births in the Region. Meanwhile, male live births registered in Ilocos Sur of 4,832 was higher  by 11.3 percent from  the female record of 4,341. The province shared 11.9 percent to the total live births. Ilocos Norte has the least number of live births among the four provinces in 2019 contributing 10.4 percent to the total record. With the 8,084 registered live births, 4,197 were male  and 3,887 were female.

In 2019,  there were 26,324 marriages registered in Ilocos Region.  About 34.6 percent brides and 36.6 percent groom belong to the age group 25-29 years old. The registered married teenage women  (age group 15-19) comprised 6.1 percent while married teenage  men recorded at 1.6 percent. Women and men married at the age  of 60 and over had shares of 0.5 percent  and 1.5 percent, respectively.

In 2019, there were 35,398 deaths registered in Ilocos Region.  There were more male deaths registered than female deaths  with 55.9 percent of the total record. 

The ratio of male to female death was 127:100, which means  that there were 127 male deaths in every 100 female deaths.

 

Employment

In 2019, there were 2,205 thousand persons who were in the labor force in Ilocos Region. About 62.1 percent were male and the remaining  37.9 percent were female.

Employed individuals were posted at 2,088 thousand of which  62.0 percent were males, and 38.0 percent were females. Meanwhile, unemployed persons in the region reached 117 thousand. 

It was estimated that 64.6 percent of unemployed persons were male  and 35.4 percent were female.

Figure 6 shows that   most of the employed persons in Ilocos Region  were involved in elementary occupations. It accounted  about 645 thousand individuals of which 66.3 percent  were women and 33.7 percent were men. This followed by service  and sales workers with 368 thousand employees of which   42.2 percent were men and 57.8 percent were women. 

Employed persons who worked as managers came third wherein men comprised  51.4 percent and women 48.5 percent.
