Registered live births in the region decreased
- The number of registered live births in the Ilocos Region in 2020 summed up to 79,008 with a decrease of 17 percent from 2019.
- The daily average birth registration in the region for 2020 was at 216 births, which was 17 percent lower than the daily average in 2019.
- Generally, the daily average of birth registration in all provinces decreased in 2020 compared to 2019.
- The highest daily average birth registration in 2019 and 2020 was recorded in Pangasinan at 162 and 134, respectively. However, there was a decrease of 18 percent from 2019 to 2020.
- On the other hand, Ilocos Sur posted a decrease of 15 percent on its daily average, followed by Ilocos Norte at 16 percent, and by La Union with 14 percent.
Pangasinan highest in terms of registered live births
- Pangasinan posted the highest number of registered live births in 2019 and 2020 with 59,304 and 48,759, respectively.
- Pangasinan registered 62 percent of the total registered live births in the region for 2020.
- La Union followed at 15 percent then Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte at 13 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
Dagupan City tops in registered number of live births
- Among the cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan had the highest registered live birth at 10,130.
- San Carlos City, Pangasinan followed at 8,432, then the City of San Fernando with 6,018, the City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 5,363, and City of Alaminos, Pangasinan with 4,345.
- There were six municipalities that recorded less than ten births ranging from 2 to 8. Of which, two municipalities registered eight births, one municipality has seven births, one municipality has five births, one municipality with four births and lastly, one municipality with 2 births.
Males outnumber females in terms of registered live births
- Males (40,900) outnumbered females (38,108) in terms of registered live births in 2020, resulting in a sex ratio of 107 males per 100 females.
- Pangasinan posted a sex ratio of 109 which was higher than the regional ratio.
- Ilocos Norte followed with a sex ratio of 105.
- Ilocos Sur and La Union both posted sex ratios of 104.
