Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth  (Municipal Form 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in Ilocos Region. Information included births registered from November 2019 and November 2020.

 

Registered live births in the region decreased  

  • The number of registered live births in the Ilocos Region in November 2020 summed up to 6,950 with a decrease of 13 percent from November 2019.  
  • The daily average birth registration in the region for November 2020  was at 232 births, which was 13 percent lower than the daily average in November 2019.
  • Generally, the daily average of birth registration in all provinces decreased in November 2020 compared to November 2019.
  • The highest daily average birth registration in November 2019 and November 2020 was recorded in Pangasinan at 161 and 149, respectively.  However, there was a decrease of 8 percent from 2019 to 2020.
  • On the other hand, La Union posted a decrease of 29 percent on its daily average, followed by Ilocos Norte at 15 percent, and by Ilocos Sur with 12 percent.

Pangasinan highest in terms of registered live births  

  • Pangasinan posted the highest number of registered live births in November 2019  and 2020 with 4,840 and 4,465, respectively. 
  • Pangasinan registered 64 percent of the total registered live births in the region  for November 2020. 
  • La Union followed at 13 percent then Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte at 12 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

Dagupan City tops in registered number of live births

  • Among the cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan had the highest registered live birth at 879.
  • San Carlos City, Pangasinan followed at 820, then the City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan  with 515, the City of Alaminos, Pangasinan with 437, and City of San Fernando with 393.
  • There were 38 municipalities that recorded the lowest registered births ranging  from 1 to 5.   Of which, one municipality registered five births, four births each for five municipalities, another eleven municipalities with three births each, twelve municipalities having two births each and lastly, one birth each for nine municipalities.

Males outnumber females in terms of registered live births

  • Males (3,591) outnumbered females (3,359) in terms of registered live births  in November 2020, resulting in a sex ratio of 107 males per 100 females.
  • Pangasinan posted a sex ratio of 111 which was higher than the regional ratio.
  • Ilocos Norte followed with a sex ratio of 109.  
  • Ilocos Sur and La Union both posted sex ratios of less than one hundred.  It indicates that there were more females than males registered in the provinces.
