Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars and forwaded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in Ilocos Region. lnformation included births registered from March 2019 and March 2020.

 

Registered live births in the region decreased
  • The number of registered live births in Ilocos Region in March 2020 summed up to 5,460 with a decrease of 27 percent from March 2019.
  • The daily average birth registration in the region for March 2020
  • was at 188 births, which was 30 percent lower than the daily average in March 2019.
  • Generally, the daily average of birth registration in all provinces decreased from March 2019 to March 2020.
  • The highest daily average birth registration in March 2019 and March 2020 was recorded in Pangasinan at 171 and 114, respectively. However, there was a decrease of 34 percent from March 2019 to March 2020.
  • Ilocos Sur on the other hand posted a decrease of 25 percent on its daily average followed by Ilocos Norte at 22 perennt and by La Union with a decrease of 21 percent.

Pangasinan highest in terms of registered live births
  • Pangasinan posted the highest number of registered live births in March 2019 and March 2020 with 4,786 births and 3,293 births, respectively.
  • Pangasinan registered 60 percent of the total registered live births in the region for March 2020.
  • Ilocos Sur and La Union followed at 14 percent then llocos Norte at 12 percent.

San Carlos Ctty tops in registered number of live births
  • Among the cities/municipalities in the region, San Carlos City, Pangasinan had The highest registered live birth in the region at 619 births.
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan followed at 606 then City of San Fernando, La Union with 391 births; City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 282 and City of Alaminos, Pangasinan
  • wilh 272 births.
  • There were 37 municipalities that recorded the lowest registered births ranging from 1 to 5. Of which, five municipalities registered five births each, four births each for 12 municipalities, another five municipalities with three births each, six municipalities having two births each and lastly, one birth each for nine municipalities.

Females outnumber males in terms of registercd live births
  • Females (2,751) outnumbered males (2,709) in terms of registered live births in March 2020, resulting to a sex ratio of 98 males per 100 females.
  • Pangasinan posted a sex ratio of 100 which was higher than the regional ratio.
  • Ilocos Sur followed with a sex ratio of 108
  • Ilocos Norte and La Union both posted sex ratios less than one hundred. This indicates that there were more females than males registered in the provinces.
