Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Death (Municipal Form l03) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal CivilRegistrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in llocos Region. Information included deaths registered in January to March 2019 and January to March 2020.
Registered deaths in the region surpassed nine thousand in the first quarter of 2020
- Ilocos Region registered a total of 9,192 deaths for the first quarter of 2020.
- Pangasinan topped the highest number of deaths in the first quarter of 2020. Its share was more than half (57 percent) of the total registered deaths in the region at 5,211 deaths.
- La Union ranked second with 1,612 deaths (18 percent). Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte followed with 1,194 deaths (13 percent) and 1,175 (13 percent), respectively.
Dagupan City tops with the most registered number of deaths
- Among cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan registered the highest number of deaths with 1,005 deaths in the first quarter of 2020.
- City of San Femando, La Union followed at 723 deaths; then San Carlos City, Pangasinan with 575 deaths; City of Batac, Ilocos Norte with 423 deaths; and City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 277 deaths.
Males outnumber females in terms of registered deaths
- Males (5,186) outnumbered females (4,006) in terms of registered deaths in the first quarter of 2020, resulting to a sex ratio of 129 males per 100 females.
- Ilocos Norte posted a sex ratio of 134 which was higher than the regional ratio.
- Pangasinan followed with a sex ratio of 130 and La Union with a sex ratio of 128.
- Ilocos Norte posted the lowest sex ratio in the region with 124.
Deaths in the region were mostly medically attended
- There were 4,721 total registered deaths that were attended by medical practitioners.
- Deaths that were not medically attended reached up to 4,471.
Percentage of deaths attended by health professionals highest in La Union
- La Union had the highest percentage of recorded deaths tended by health professionals with 68 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.
- In Ilocos Norte, health professionals attended to 56 percent of the deaths in the province.
- In Pangasinan, health professionals attended to 48 percent of the deaths in the province while 38 percent of the deaths registered in Ilocos Sur were attended by health professionals. Among provinces, Pangasinan had the most number of deaths assisted by health professionals at 53 percent (2,506 deaths).
