Live births in the region mostly attended by physicians

  • Ilocos Region registered a total of 6,471 births for February 2020.
  • There were 5,267 total registered live births that were attended by medical practitioners, who may either be a physician, a nurse, or a midwife.
  • Physicians topped the list of attendants at birth with 4,395 registered live births.
  • Midwives attended to 851 registered live births in the region while nurses only attended to 21 registered live births.

La Union and Pangasinan have the highest percentage of birth deliveries attended by health professionals

  • La Union and Pangasinan had the highest percentage of birth deliveries tended by health professionals with 83 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • Ilocos Sur followed with 77 percent and Ilocos Norte with 75 percent.
  • Of the total 5,267 registered live births that were attended by medical practitioners in the region. Pangasinan had the most registered live births at 64.9 percent or with 3,417.
  • Then followed by La Union at 755 registered live births of 14.3 percent then by Ilocos Sur with 620 or at 11.8 percent and Ilocos Norte at 475 or at 9.0 percent.

 

More than one thousand births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives
  • There were 1,193 registered live births in the region this February 2020 who were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives.
  • Ilocos Norte registered 152 live births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives. That is 24 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • Ilocos Sur had 182 registered live births or 23 percent attended at birth by unlicensed midwives this month.
  • La Union registered 150 live births (17 percent) who were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives.
  • Pangasinan had 17 percent or 709 registered live births attended by unlicensed midwives on February 2020.

 

Most parents belong to the age group 25 to 29

  • The registered live births in the region were mostly born to parents who were aged 25 to 29 years old. The highest proportion of fathers and mother belonged to age group 25 to 29 years (24 percent and 25 percent, respectively).
  • The region registered a total of 626 live births who were born to a teenage mother.
  • The median age of mothers was 28 years old. This means that half the number of mothers was younger than 28 years old and half was older than 28 years old.
  • The median age of fathers was also at 28 years old.

 

More than half of live births in the region were registered illegitimate

  • There were 3,376 registered live births in the region who were listed as illegitimate. That is 52 percent of the total registered live births in the region.
  • lllegitimate children were mostly bom to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old.
  • Mothers aged 25 to 29 years old had the highest number of legitimate children at 871 who were iegistered in the region for the month.
