Construction projects reach 3,335 in fourth quarter 2019

Approved building permits in fourth quarter 2019 totaled to 3,335. Of the total construction projects, 2,315 or 69.4 percent were residential-type buildings, 732 or 22.0 percent were non-residential and 288 or 8.6 percent were additions, alterations and repair constructions.  

Figure 1 shows the distribution of construction projects by type for the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

The province of Pangasinan recorded the highest number of construction projects among the provinces in Ilocos Region with 1,265 accounting to 37.9 percent of the total construction projects, followed by Ilocos Norte with 936 (28.1%), Ilocos Sur with 652 (19.6%), and La Union with 482 (14.4%).

Figure 2 shows the distribution of construction projects by province for the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

Total value of constructions amounts to ₱5.7 billion

Total value of constructions from approved building permits in fourth quarter of 2019 was recorded at ₱5.7 billion. 

By type of construction projects, value of residential buildings amounted to ₱2.6 billion, while non-residential construction buildings were valued at ₱2.9 billion for the fourth quarter of 2019.

Combined value of constructions for additions, alterations and repairs of existing structures was estimated at ₱181.9 million.

Figure 3 displays the aggregate value of constructions by type in fourth quarter of 2019.

Average cost per square meter of residential building constructions is ₱9,370

Total value of construction for residential buildings was ₱2.6 billion with a total floor area of 261,522 square meters, translating to an average cost of ₱9,929 per square meter. 

Among the residential constructions, single houses recorded the bulk of the projects with 2,252 accounting to 97.3 percent of the total. Total value of construction for this type reached ₱2.4 billion covering a total floor area of 242,761 square meters, translating to an average cost of ₱9,991 per square meter.

Apartment/accessoria ranked far second with 51 residential construction projects representing   2.2 percent of the total residential constructions. This type of residential building had an estimated construction value of ₱145.3 million with a total floor area of 16,471 square meters, translating to an average cost of ₱8,820 per square meter.

Duplex houses recorded a total of 9 residential construction projects representing
0.4 percent of the total residential constructions. Total constructions value for this type amounted to ₱20.4 million and a total floor area of 1,694 square meters or an average cost of ₱12,067 per square meter.

Other residential constructions posted 3 construction projects representing 0.1 percent of the total residential constructions. Total value of this is type amounted to ₱5.3 million and a total floor area of 596 square meters or an average cost of ₱8,940 per square meter.

Figure 4 shows the number and value of residential constructions by type in fourth quarter of 2019.

Commercial building dominates non-residential construction projects

The total value of non-residential building constructions in the region reached ₱2.9 billion with a total floor area of 210,902 square meters, reflecting an average cost of ₱13,841 per square meter.

Commercial buildings had the highest number with 529 construction projects or 72.3 percent of the total non-residential constructions. Value of construction for this type was estimated at ₱1.1 billion covering a total floor area of 95,781 square meters or an average cost of ₱11,413 per square meter.  

Although institutional buildings ranked second in terms of number of construction projects with 153 construction projects or 20.9 percent of the total non-residential construction, it recorded the highest total constructions value among the non-residential construction projects with ₱1.7 billion and a total floor area of 936,525 square meters or an average cost of ₱17,787 per square meter.

Industrial buildings followed with 24 construction projects or 3.3 percent of the total non-residential building constructions. It has a total construction value of ₱76.4 million and a total floor area of 7,730 square meters or an average cost of ₱9,889 per square meter.

Agricultural buildings ranked fourth with 17 construction projects. It comprised 2.3 percent of the total non-residential building constructions with construction value of ₱84.0 million and a total floor area of 13,866 square meters or an average cost of ₱6,059 per square meter.

Other buildings comprised 9 construction projects or 1.3 percent of the non-residential construction with a total value of ₱2.0 million.

Figure 5 shows the number and value of non-residential construction by type for the fourth quarter 2019.
