Region 1 will celebrate 28^th National Statistics Month (NSM) this October 2017 with the theme, “FACTS AND FIGURES FOR THE FUTURE:  Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards Ambisyon Natin 2040.”

The NSM celebration is pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October every year as National Statistics Month,” issued on September 20, 1990.  The Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) is the overall coordinating body on NSM at the local level in accordance to Memorandum Circular No. 2017-12 issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority.  

To elicit more support from various stakeholders in the region, RSC 1 issued resolution No. 6, series of 2017, “Approving the common NSM Regional Activities and Enjoining all Regional Line Agencies (RLA’s), Local Government Units (LGUs), academic institutions and private sector to support the NSM celebration in the region.  

The month-long celebration of the NSM will kick-off on October 5, 2017 during its Regional Opening Ceremony at the Atrium of the CSI Mall, Biday, San Fernando City (SFC), La Union.  The event will be sponsored by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). A jingle singing contest for secondary and tertiary students will also be held on the same event, which will be participated by the champions from the four provinces of the region.  

Meanwhile, to advocate the importance of statistics, a statistical exhibit will be held on October 5 to 27, 2017 at the 2^nd Floor of CSI Mall-SFC.  Various infographics, flyers, brochures, and posters will be displayed for public viewing.  

Regional Poster-slogan making contest, statistics quiz, essay writing contest, and oratorical contest for secondary and tertiary students will also be held as part of the NSM celebration.  A regional essay writing contest for employees will also be conducted and will be participated by the Provincial Champions.

One of the highlights of the NSM celebration in the region is the Search for Best 28^th NSM Province Implementer to be participated by the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union.  Meanwhile, the province of Pangasinan is a qualifier for the NSM Hall of Fame Award for winning the best NSM Province Implementer for the last three consecutive years.  The winners will be awarded during the NSM Regional Closing Ceremony on October 27, 2017 at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, San Fernando City, La Union.
