The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducts its July round Labor Force Survey (LFS) nationwide to gather data on demographic and socio-economic characteristics of population.The LFS aims to collect information on the distribution of household population 15 years old and over, by employment status, by sex, and age group.  It also collects data on the distribution of employed persons by major occupation group, major industry group, class of worker, number of hours worked, highest grade completed, nature of employment, and by sex.
The LFS is undertaken together with the 2017 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) from July 8-31, 2017.  APIS gathers data that can be used to generate income and non-income based poverty indicators that will be used to assess and monitor the poverty situation in the country.  It also aims to collect indicators that determine the family expenditure pattern.  Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) module is also included to serve as basis in monitoring the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 – Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.  Water Quality Testing (WQT) module questionnaire will be administered and water quality testing will be conducted to a subsample from the APIS 2017.
The conduct of LFS and APIS are among the functions of PSA as stated under Section 6 of Republic Act 10625 also known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, that PSA shall be primarily responsible for all national censuses and survey, including sectoral statistics, consolidation of administrative recording system and compilation of national account.  Furthermore, Section 26 of RA 10625 stipulates that data furnished by the respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys and censuses of PSA shall be considered privileged communication and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceedings.  The PSA may release data gathered from censuses only in the form of summaries or statistical tables, in which no reference to an individual, corporation, association, partnership, institution or business enterprise shall appear. 
The PSA enjoins the sample household respondents and the barangay officials of thesample Enumeration Areas (EAs) to cooperate and participate in the conduct of these surveys.  The data generated from these surveys shall serve as vital inputs in development planning and decision-making.
