Labor Force Participation Rate
The total population of 15 years old and over in the Ilocos Region was estimated at 3.7 million in July 2024. Out of this population, 2.2 million were in the labor force.
The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of the region was estimated at 60.0 percent in July 2024. This means that six in every ten of the population aged 15 years and over were either employed or unemployed.
The employment rate of the region registers at 94.5 percent
The employment rate in the Ilocos Region declined by 1.1 percentage points from 95.6 percent in July 2023 to 94.5 percent in July 2024. Also, this rate was less than the employment rate in April 2024 by 2 percentage points.
In terms of level, the number of employed persons in July 2024 was estimated at 2.1 million individuals aged 15 years old and over out of the 2.2 million individuals who were in the labor force.
The unemployment rate reaches 5.5 percent
The unemployment rate of the region in July 2024 was estimated at 5.5 percent equivalent to 122 thousand unemployed persons, which is higher than the 4.4 percent (96 thousand) in July 2023. This was also higher by 2 percentage points from the 3.5 percent or 84 thousand unemployed in April 2024.
Underemployment rate is estimated at 5.5 percent
Underemployed persons in Ilocos Region were estimated at 5.5 percent or equivalent to 115 thousand underemployed persons in July 2024. This estimate was lower than the 14.1 percent or 295 thousand reported number of underemployed persons in July 2023. It also lower than the 199 thousand (8.6 percent) underemployed in April 2024.
