The Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) of La Union organized a training-workshop entitled, "Online Training on Descriptive Statistics and Its Applications Using Official Statistics” on 27 October 2023, aligned with the Provincial Statistical System’s (PrSS) pursuit of strengthening the technical capacity of statistical workforce of the Province of La Union.

Participants of the training-workshop were members of the PSC and representatives from line agencies and the academe that included the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Education (DepEd) – La Union Schools Division and City Division Office, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) – Regional Office I, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO), Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Information Office (PIO), Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Treasury Office (PTO), Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO),  Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), and the Local Government Units (LGUs).

Mr. Ronald L. Aquino, a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus, was invited as the resource speaker for the said training-workshop.   Mr. Aquino discussed on Introduction to Statistics, Methods for Describing Data, and Describing Bivariate Relationships. A workshop followed to assess the participants’ acquired knowledge during the training. 

Through the conduct of the training-workshop, the participants were informed on the means of organizing, simplifying, and describing datasets from official statistics including the processing of vast datasets into a form that one can quickly draw insights.

Moreover, the training-workshop supported one of the PrSS strategic thrusts – the enhancement of statistical research and upgrading of systems and skills towards increased technical capacity of human resources, as well as improvement of current methodologies which adhere to internationally recommended standards and suitable techniques for the generation of statistics and indicators to respond to the current and emerging needs and demands.
